Free class

The Story Only You Can Tell — Suntree/Viera Public Library, August 17

A free class about the one thing nobody else can hand down for you: your own account of what happened, in your own words. We’ll work through prompts that get past names and dates and into the stuff that actually made a life, then talk about how to hold onto it.

What to expect

Everybody assumes the interesting stories belong to someone else, the relative who traveled, the one with the big career. This class starts from the opposite idea, that the ordinary details of your own life are exactly what your family won’t be able to reconstruct later. We’ll use specific, low-pressure prompts to surface those, and practice the follow-up questions that turn a short answer into a real memory.

You’re welcome to participate, just listen, or bring a family member and try the prompts together. No writing or genealogy experience is needed, and nobody has to share anything private with the room. The goal is to leave with a manageable first step and a short list of questions you can use at home.

Bring a notebook if you like, but all essential materials and prompts will be provided during the session.
